Overview

Women are those members of society that are sexually and/or emotionally identified against men. Traditionally sexual characteristics were used to identify gender. Socially, females have traditionally been treated as inferior to males. However, since the 1970's the political perspective of feminism has gained increased public support.

Differences from Males

Sexually, women are those with the vulva as a sexual organ, involved in the reproductive system. They have the secondary sexual characteristics that include enlarged breasts, a generally lower height than men, less facial hair than men, a wide area around the hips, buttocks and thighs and mammary glands.

Although more males are born, females make up a larger proportion of the population as women usually live longer than men. Characteristics that influence this difference include the varied genes of female sex chromosomes, the presence of the estrogen hormone and lack of androgens hormone and various social trends.
