[ history ]

Mathematics has been around for thousands of years. From simple counting to the advanced complex systems of today, math enables our society to move forward with technology and intellectual development.

Why is it helpful to understand math history? There are a few reasons. It helps one to get a perspective on how long and how difficult a process it is to develop new branches of mathematics, as well as to advance the existing ones. It gives a look into the process of trial and error and finally discovery. Math history helps the student understand that their predecessors also had challenges grasping some of the concepts that some do today.

Below are some milestones within the field.
