Science: Astronomy: Black Holes

[ history ]

Overview

In Einstein's General Theory of Relativity, are any mass of sufficient size warps the space around it, curving space inwards towards itself. The larger the mass the greater the curvature. A black hole is a region of space that has so much gravitational force, it bends space so completely that nothing can escape from it. In other words, there is no path out of the black hole because all paths curve back in on themselves. Not even light can escape a black hole, which explains their name. Black holes are created when dying stars of sufficient mass collapse inwards on themselves.
